Bushwhack...
We began today knowing we were going to see waterfalls, and do some serious bushwhacking. We were sent off, as happens most days, by Mutnovsky's Crater 3 puffing away.
See, bush (alder)whacking! This involved trying not to get separated from the leader, and not slipping into some muddy ravine and landing in a river, both of which mos of us did.
Our errfost were rewarded geologically and botanically. Wild iris?
They were in a field at the base of yet another snow covered hill we slid down.
Lots of bees, other flowers, a perfect spot for lunch. Even if it was 3:30p! Our typical lunch-time.
A beauty among beauties?
A motley crue.
Hi mom!
River cuts trhough volcanic deposist coming off the Mutnovsky region.
Wave action? Water does a pretty quick job of volcanic sediments.
A variety of depositional units all unearthed by our friend the waterfall.
