Camel Volcano Area...
After 3 full days of lectures in the hut, we escaped for a short (ha, they were never short) hike to look at some volcanic domes, lava flows and the like... Our first stop was at a region with large xenoliths imbedded in magamtic host rock, large in size and percentage.
Despite the fog having lifted, permitting our jaunt out of camp, the wind was howling up ash all over! On a later hike, also in windy conditions, this would be dubbed Satan's Sandbox.
Chocolate sweet and condensed milk anyone? It's not as sweet as plain sweet and condensed milk, but works like a charm in your coffee to make mochas. The Russian's seemed to like it straight!
Cans, cans and more cans. Beans, meat, fish, sweet and condensed milk...
We were trying to reach our destination dome, but spent quite a bit of time at lucnh cowering behind an outcrop as a windbreak, and having a snowball fight and sledding.
Destination reached! Quite the columnar dome. Belongs on a volcano names for it's two humps, Camel Mountain.
Don't look mom, this is when you scratch your head and try to assume you're not going to fall in.
En route, close to home, can see the fire in the distance! Nice day, glad we got out of the hut!
